Question

How can I meet likeminded people in my community?

Tips

Head to the nearest farmers market and start chatting (farmers love to chat)
Homesteading is going to be challenging enough – learn from people who have survived the seasons and have learned to thrive in your region.
Become a member of a group such as Cowichan Green Community (info below)
This group has been around since 2004 and they envision a food secure community that is nourished by celebrating people’s connection to food, to the environment and to one another. They present educational workshops, host events and organize Duncan’s annual Seedy Sundays.
Not in Cowichan? Check out the Island Farm Fresh Guide!
Access a listing of all local farmers across Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Take a tour and get to know those that are growing the local food movement.
Or join the BC Off-Grid and Sustainable Living FB group
Facebook may be going the way of the dinosaur, but responsive FB groups are still a great way to get quick answers to questions not easily answerable online. You might even be able to find someone to help you build that yurt!
